Niagara Street Cafe

We always forget about Niagara Street Cafe until we rediscover it again. But every time we remember to go, it has been a great experience and last night was no different. Tucked in on a quiet street, this restaurant serves up fabulous meals with rich flavours and the best ingredients. And another plus, it is one of the few restaurants that are open on Sunday night. It is no coincidence that this place is fabulous because the head chef Nick Liu worked at Scaramouche for nine years and has certainly picked up quite a few tricks. We had heirloom tomato soup with basil EVO which I forgot to take a picture of. For mains, my mother-in-law, father-in-law, and myself all had the Pork belly with Prawn, Cucumber, Bak Choi and Strawberry Star Anise Reduction on Chive Pancake. We just can't say no to pork belly. I had it for 2 of the 3 dinners when we were at NYC (I tried 3 for 3 but people don't want to listen to me). Nick had the Grilled Bavette - Flank Steak on Baguette with Crunchy Egg Yolk and Dijon Sauce with Heirloom Tomato Salad and Caramelized Onion, just to be different. Both dishes were excellent. The combination of flavours and textures for the pork belly dish was amazing and certainly Asian inspired. Very very yummy. You should see how clean my plate was!
