The Black Hoof

If one day, I died and went to meat heaven where veggies were not required, I probably wouldn't be very far from the Black Hoof. Seriously, it was that fantastic. The only thing holding it back was the sweetbread (we felt it should not have been deep fried but rather pan seared) and the watery sangria but we could easily forgive them. So 4 of us, 3 studly men and myself...not small eaters by any way, visited the Black Hoof on Friday night. It was a toss up between that and Cowbell, because that's how much we like meat. We were certainly glad that we have no qualms about eating the stranger parts of a creature like brain and lower jowls which was basically all fat. Anyhow, the meal was fantastic. And here is how it went down:
Chacuterie (Exactly what was included will come later once Gary decides to give me the listing that he asked the poor waitress to write down for us. She was the nicest of all waitresses though. All I can remember is foie gras, air-cured horse meat, blueberry bison salami, rabbit rillettes, dijon mustard, duck, some lower jowls...)
Thuet Bread (sorry, no pic)
Lamb Brain Ravioli
Duck Confit Sammy
Beef Heart & Chimichurri
Pork Belly Pastrami & Summer Salad
Sweetbreads, Chanterelles & Peas
Foie Gras on Brioche

We at first weren't going to order the lamb brain but we added it last minute which probably put us over the top. Everyone was extremely full after as the portions were bigger than we initially thought and all that fat certainly didn't help with digestion. But fear not, we were not wasters and we finished every thing. It was a heart stopping experience. At the end, we were sad that we did not order the bone marrow but something on the menu needed to be saved for the next time we visit this lovely meat paradise.
